Together, they manage to rekindle Moana, while also granting her a wayfinder’s tattoo and turning her into a demigoddess, with her oar becoming her magical object like Maui’s giant fishhook. Maui is also given his demigod powers and tattoos back, including Mini Maui, and together, they are able to raise Motufetu. She sadly confesses her incompetence and demands that the ocean choose someone else to restore the heart. The ocean accepts Moana’s decision and brings Te Fiti’s heart back to the sea.

Set three years later, it follows Moana reuniting with the demigod Maui and assembling a wayfinding crew to find the lost island of Motufetu, break its curse, and reconnect the people of the ocean. Gramma Tala finds Moana on the beach after she tries to sail past the reef only to become shipwrecked back home and shows Moana a secret cave hidden behind a waterfall. Tala then gives Moana the heart of Te Fiti after showing her the curse of draining life away from trees and the island itself, saying that it is the only way to save her people. She goes to her father and tells him what Tala told her, but he doesn’t listen and sees it as another excuse for her to leave the island. A millennium later, Moana as a toddler discovers the heart as she is collecting shells near the ocean.

She is voiced by Auli’i Cravalho, and will be portrayed by Catherine Laga’aia in the upcoming 2026 live action adaptation. In November 2014, Dwayne Johnson (also known as The Rock) was announced to voice the demigod Maui and join Moana on her action-packed voyage.
Fishing For Easter Eggs
The goddess revives the dying islands across the world, and restores Moana’s boat and Maui’s fishhook. Moana asks Maui to return home with her, but Maui gently declines, showing Moana a new tattoo on his body, inspired by her heroism. The two warmly embrace before Maui shape-shifts into a hawk and flies away. Moana and Heihei sail for Motunui and arrive as the island is recovering from the curse entirely. Having restored the safety of the sea, Moana takes her place as a Chieftess of Motunui and the people of the village break out their ancestor’s boats.
- Tui and Sina, Moana’s parents, try to keep her away from the ocean to prepare her to become the island’s chief.
- One Kakamora, Kotu, decides to join Moana and sacrifices himself and Moana’s raft to save the ones of his fellow Kakamora as Moana, her crew, pets, and Kotu are swallowed by the giant clam.
- Moana, in a moment of desperation, dives into the ocean to touch Motufetu underwater, but as she succeeds, Nalo’s lightning kills her.

It was nominated for Best Animated Feature Film at the 82nd Golden Globe Awards. A follow-up to Moana was originally developed as a miniseries for Disney+, but by February 2024 it had been reworked into a theatrical sequel. Mark Mancina and Opetaia Foaʻi, the composers and co-songwriters of the first film, returned to score and write the songs, while Abigail Barlow and Emily Bear provided additional songs.

It only angers Maui, prompting Moana to confess her own feelings of doubt by revealing that she doesn’t know why the ocean chose her. She further explains that she is still intending to save her dying island, although she can only do so with Maui’s aid. On the Polynesian island of Motunui, the inhabitants worship the goddess of nature, Te Fiti; a living island who, long ago, brought life to the ocean using a pounamu stone as her heart and the source of her power. One day, Maui, the shape-shifting demigod of the wind and sea and master of wayfinding, stole Te Fiti’s heart to give humanity the power of creation. This caused Te Fiti to disintegrate, and Maui was attacked by Te Kā, a volcanic demon. Moana premiered during the AFI Fest at the El Capitan Theatre in Los Angeles on November 14, 2016, and was released theatrically in the United States on November 23. The film received positive reviews from critics and was a commercial success, grossing $687 million worldwide.
She calmed the frantic chicken by assuring him the Ocean was a friend, but became worried when Heihei fell off her boat. Moana managed to rescue Heihei Moana and to prevent him from falling off the boat again, she put him in her canoe’s cargo hold to keep him safe. When coming across a storm, Moana put Heihei’s safety first as she sailed through the storm.
